In 2011 the National Train Day Association unveiled if first banners in recognition our Nations Passenger Railroads and Railways. National Train Day Association in recognition of the American Passenger Railroad Industry, selected
American "EMD Electro-Motive Diesel General Electric P-40's" Locomotive, a work horse EMD/
Electro-Motive Diesel Engine used on National Passenger Rail Lines of the
American Long Haul Passenger Railway System.
This year the National Train Day Association has selected the new techology of
Siemens High Speed Locomotive InterCity Multiple Unit Express "DBAG Class 605" to represent National Train Day Banners of 2012. The American Passenger Railroad has dememostrated that
Canadian Manufacturer "Bombardier" Design and Engineering has been sucessfull on
American Express Trains.
Inaddition The National Train Day Association Theme for 2012 is:
"RAIL LINE COMMUNITY JOURNEY"
Providing travelers with many rewarding opportunities found in "railway journeys" can offer a unique adventure across America's rail line community destinations.
Also, the National Train Day Association is providing a tribute to:
Richard Trevithick (1771-1833)
In 1804 built the first
"Steam Locomotive" in the world. Leading to the
"Industrial Revolution".
George Stephenson is the inventor of the first steam engines for railway use in the 18th century. The locomotive called "Blusher" was manufactured and put into service on the Cillingwood Railway 25th July, 1814. On an ascending grade, this engine succeeded in pulling eight loaded wagons of thirty tons', at about 4 miles per hour, and was the most successful working engine that had ever been constructed. It was a triumph, which pushed the inventor to experiment further.
The invention of the steam engine was critical to the invention of the modern railroad and trains. In 1803,
Samuel Homfray funded the development of a
steam-powered vehicle to replace the horse-drawn carts on the tramways.
Richard Trevithick built that vehicle, the first
steam engine
tramway locomotive. On February 22, 1804, the locomotive hauled a load of 10 tons of iron, 70 men and five extra wagons the 9 miles between the ironworks at Pen-y-Darron in the town of
Merthyr Tydfil, Wales to the bottom of the valley called Abercynnon. It took about two hours.
Richard Trevithick's invention is considered the first tramway locomotive, however, it was a road locomotive, designed for a road and not for a railroad. However, Trevithick's accomplishments were many and the inventor did not fully recieve the credit he was due during his lifetime.
Richard Trevithick wrote a letter to
Davies Gilbert, stating:
"I have been branded with folly and madness for attempting what the world calls impossibilities, and even from the great engineer, the late
Mr. James Watt, who said to an eminent scientific character still living, that I deserved hanging for bringing into use the high-pressure engine. This so far has been my reward from the public; but should this be all, I shall be satisfied by the great secret pleasure and laudable pride that I feel in my own breast from having been the instrument of bringing forward and maturing new principles and new arrangements of boundless value to my country. However much I may be straitened in pecunary circumstances, the great honour of being a useful subject can never be taken from me, which to me far exceeds riches".
Thus, the United States National Train Day Banner logo bear Richard Trevithick name and date of first locomotive design in 1804.
