142 years of rail passenger services coast to coast as the transcontinental Central Pacific and Union Pacific railways came together on May 10, 1869, at Promontory Summit, Utah, the "golden spike" was driven into the final tie that joined 1,776 miles.
Celebrate Chicago's train travel, experiences, history and the ways trains are involved in daily lives of the Chaicago People. The event festivities will highlight the unique perspective rail passengers enjoy in the vastness and beauty of the American Railway Landscape, from cities to towns across Illinoiois and the Great North American Continent Vistas.
Amtrak Chicgo Union Station will host the 2012 event celebration. The events will feature live entertainment, interactive exhibits and educational activities about our "Nations Railways To Future", as well as, fun activities for the entire family.
Chicago's National Train Day will also bring the ‘railway’ and "Rail Line Community Journey" to life for attendees, and those participating online and through social media.
